Blizzard Plans Achievements Across All Games
August 2nd, 2008 / / by Sol Invictus

Beginning with the implementation of achievements in Wrath of the Lich King, Blizzard has announced its plans to implement achievements across all of its games, including the upcoming Diablo III and Starcraft II through the use of a Blizzard Level system tied to a single, universal Blizzard account. World of Warcraft designer Jeff Kaplan revealed some of the following details to MTV’s Multiplayer Blog.
“Eventually, our plans are for the Achievement system to become an account-based system,” he explained.
When the new Blizzard Accounts are active, a player’s ‘WoW’ points can be added to an overall score dubbed an account holder’s “Blizzard Level.” “It’s basically a gamerscore,” Kaplan said, when I made reference to Xbox Live’s Achievement system. “For now the points are just a ‘WoW’ character score. As we graduate to that Blizzard Account system, which is right on the horizon, it will switch over to a Blizzard Level.
Your ‘WoW’ score would be just one factor that will go into your Blizzard Level. And rather than call it a ’score,’ we just wanted it to be like you’re leveling up on Blizzard games… You’ll have this Blizzard identity, and you’ll be able to see things like ‘Oh, this guy was great at Diablo III, but he never played Starcraft and he was mediocre in WoW. That sort of thing.”
There couldn’t be better news.

Wrath of the Lich King Achievements
July 17th, 2008 / / by Sol Invictus
Blizzard just announced that the next expansion pack to World of Warcraft, Wrath of the Lich King, is set to get achievements.
While Wrath of the Lich King will improve many of World of Warcraft’s existing features, it will also introduce plenty of brand-new ones to keep the game fresh and interesting. One of these new features is sure to suit a wide range of play styles: achievements. These self-contained goals will offer new challenges, satisfy goal-oriented players, allow others to see your accomplishments in World of Warcraft — and are just plain fun.
World of Warcraft’s achievements system will launch with more than 500 individual achievements covering every aspect of gameplay, including world exploration, PvE, PvP, professions, and character development; from the purely whimsical to the truly epic, there will be something for everyone. Some achievements come with in-game rewards such as tabards, vanity pets, and titles. All of these rewards are purely cosmetic and just for fun, but you’ll certainly stand out when you proudly display them.
And don’t fret about running out of achievements anytime soon. The list is easily expandable, so you can expect additional achievements with each new World of Warcraft content update.

Those of you who were lucky enough to participate in the recent Blizzard Invitational will be happy to discover a redeemable key code in your package for an in-game World of Warcraft pet that happens to be none other than Tyrael, the archangel from the Diablo series. Blizzard guy Barnakk had this to share in the World of Warcraft forums:
The code for the in-game World of Warcraft pet that was provided in the goodie bag at the 2008 Worldwide Invitational will be usable at our Pet Redemption Webpage after patch 2.4.3 is released in the near future.
After you have received the in-game code from this webpage, the Alliance will travel to Stormwind and the Horde to Undercity to visit a new NPC where you will be able to claim the in-game pet.
The pet itself will be a miniature version of the Archangel Tyrael of Diablo 2 fame who will travel with you on all your grand adventures in Azeroth! Pictures of this amazing new pet will be available on the official website soon for everybody to check out.
